sleepy-and-anxious:

Right my dudes, I wanna talk about how the advice of “real writers write every day” is damaging af.

Sure, it sounds good on paper, but as soon as you realise that a lot of writers (especially on tumblr) are 1) perfectionists 2) anxious messes 3) don’t have the best mental health situations you start to see really unhealthy behaviours being shown. Like, I’ve seen people on here work themselves to burnout then try to write through it, beat themselves up and berate themselves for only writing a little bit or not at all, and I myself have a habit of obsessive and unhealthy workaholic tendencies aka my dad said he was taking a day off a few days ago and my reply was “lol whats that” because i’ll work myself till im ill because im being productive so its okay.

But it isn’t. Not really.

I think we all need to have a talk about how its okay to take breaks and that the ‘write something every day’ thought is kinda a screwy thing to tell young writers and we need to look out for each other. I know there are healthy ways of writing everyday (I’ll write 100 words today bc progress is still progress etc) which is fine and good !!!! but its needs to become a thing where it is totally a ok to take a break and read a good book or watch netflix instead for the day my dudes
