To quote Josh Lyman ‘it is done, and I did it’. I think this part has caused me more stress than any other fic I’ve written all because I lost the first part of it that I really liked. Anyway, it’s done and I hope it’s a fitting ending 🙂
He’s lucky not to get a speeding ticket as he races through the lanes to Hotten from Vic’s, but he knows Holy Latte closes at six on a regular day, but then this is no regular day. It’s ten to by the time he gets a parking space, having stopped off to collect something on the way. There’s a high chance it’ll end up being thrown at him, but he has to try. He has a plan already forming in his mind, now he just has to make it work.
The place is in darkness when he gets outside, his heart sinking until he hears something crash inside. He makes himself knock on the door, hoping it’s Aaron inside and that he’ll answer. He does, and the first thing Robert notices is the slight hunch of his shoulders.
“What do you want?” He asks, arm resting on the doorframe blocking the entrance. “Come to gloat about putting me out of business?”
“No.”
“To convince me to take that job then?” Robert nearly rolled his eyes, should’ve known Chrissie would take no notice of him.
“No Aaron, Vic mentioned it was your last day. She was worried about you so I thought I’d call in.” He hesitates as Aaron’s face doesn’t change. “I brought cake. Bit coals to Newcastle, mind.”
“What kind of cake?”
“Chocolate, of course. Seb likes it and he’s fussy as anything so it must be good.”
“Fine then.” He lets him pass, pulls a chair off a table and disappears. “Here.” He looks up from the chair as Aaron waves a fork in his face. “So often visit the people you’ve put out of business do you?”
“That’s not…I told you, Vic was worried.”
“Vic could call me. In fact she has.”
“Fine. I wanted to apologise for the day in the park. I was rude.”
“Well…go on then.” He shakes his head, doesn’t know what Aaron’s getting at. “Apologise.”

Can I please prompt Seb asking various relatives how his dads met?
“Nana?” He mumbles around a mouthful of fish and chips. He should wait until he’s finished chewing, Dad says, but Papa doesn’t, and besides he can’t wait.
“Yes love?” He loves coming to Nana’s for tea, and it’s just the two of them. Sometimes Granddad Paddy is there. He’s not sure what he make of him really, he doesn’t get a lot of his jokes, but he does sometimes take him to see the animals at the vets so he’s alright he supposes.
“How did Daddy and Papa meet?” He scoops up another forkful of fish. It’s Marlon’s cooking and it’s really good. Not as good as Dad’s but he doesn’t cook fish and chips. He only has it when he comes here so it’s a proper treat.
“You’d have to ask them sweetheart. I don’t think your Papa has ever told me. Your Dad came back to live here not long before that though.” She busies herself clearing her plate away and he watches. People think because he’s little that he doesn’t know when they don’t want him to know things, but he does.

He asks Cain next. He’s a bit scared of Cain, he’s all grumpy and cross faced, but he’s heard people say that about Papa and he doesn’t understand because Papa’s really smiley.
He shouldn’t be here, near the garage. Dad had told him to stay in the garden, but that was boring, and besides it was only the village, nothing bad was going to happen so he’d walked up to the garage.
Cain was bent over a car. Seb liked cars. Papa let him play in some of the ones at the scrapyard, and he’d pretend that he was one of those racing drivers off the telly. He knew what all the controls did, Papa had shown him one day when Dad was nowhere to be seen. He’d had to promise he’d never drive anything until he was old enough though before he would, or that he’d tell Dad.
“Alright squirt? Come to help me with an oil change have ya?” Cain’s not grumpy today, that’s good. He’s a bit scared of grumpy Cain.
“Ok!” Cain chuckles then and his face drops at the teasing.

Love this. So much. ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
