Did we ever talk about how Aaron’s big heart is actually the reason why Robert has this wonderful life in ED, reunited with his family, and has had the opportunity to have so many types of closure regarding his past in the village?
I don’t just mean the obvious, of Aaron loving Robert and helping him to be the best version of himself he can be.
I also mean 2014, ok? Aaron’s big heart is why he’s unable to stay in France, where he’s safe, when his friend Adam needs him. He comes back and goes right into action, which leads to him being chased by the police. This is how he ends up in Edna’s living room, having that fateful conversation with her that prompted her to look back at her past as the wife of Lawrence’s lover. It’s this talk with Aaron that leaves her wanting to make things right with Lawrence, which is how the man ends up on a visit in ED and getting his idea of moving his family to ED as a way of forcing Robert’s true colors to come out and getting him out of Chrissie’s life.
(How’s that ungenerous plan working out for you, Lawrence babe? Robert is his truest self now and yeah, definitely not married to Chrissie)
Aaron didn’t even know it, but it was his uncompromising caring about others that Robert loves so much, that eventually inspires him to step up and be a better man and gain happiness himself, it’s that part of Aaron which indirectly leads his future husband to him and grants him the life he’s so happy with. It was always fated, I tell you, and it’s beautiful and one day I’m gonna stop crying about how epic their love is, but it’s not today.
Yes!!! It was almost immediate too. By Christmas Aaron’s goodness was having an effect of Robert. He pushed Robert to apologize and admit to Andy why he felt the way he did. Remember Aaron’s proud little face when he overheard? And even after engraving on the rings was revealed he could still see how Robert tried.
@aaron-fan, reblogging for your comments and to add –
Oh, 100% this! I mean, I think from the get go there was something about Aaron that made Robert *want* to earn his respect. And the ways he know to go about it are… not the greatest at that point. But then not in order to gain anything from Aaron, but simply because he can’t help but admire this grump, he actually listens. Robert actually listened not just to Aaron rejecting him after Rob was terrible with Andy, but also to *why*. He’s already got Aaron so deep under his skin, that he wants to be better, even though he has no guarantee that that would change anything and bring the object of his desire back to him. But then Aaron sees him and his efforts, even when everyone else is upset with Robert and disappointed in him over the rings destruction, and he’s freaking there for Rob where no one else is, which connects with the incredible gifset that you just posted and I swear I have a point, but now I’m so emotional over those two morons and how clearly made for each other they are that I’m no long sure what it is…

I wish we’d stop sleeping on the fact that Aaron is the reason Robert came back to the village in the first place
Team “huge chunks of the story is missing from the spoilers and instead of filling those chunks with the worst case scenarios we should just let it play out and react as we go. Predetermining that a story will suck before it plays out just ruins the whole show for yourself. Watch. Then hate it. Love it. Understand it. Be indifferent to it. Whatever.” Robron
