A couple nearly killed in the violent clashes between demonstrators and white nationalists in Charlottesville, Va., last summer finally got to tie the knot this weekend.
Marcus Martin was seen in a powerful photo being struck by white nationalist James Field Jr.’s Dodge Challenger as it plowed into a group of people protesting an Aug. 12, 2017, hate group rally in the Virginia town.
He pushed fiancée Marissa Blair out of the way, but his left leg was broken and their friend Heather Heyer was fatally struck by the car.
Wedding planner Christina Moore from Bella Giornata Events & Designs contacted the couple, who had delayed their wedding after Heyer’s death.
She teamed up with 30 vendors to carry out the ceremony free of charge.
Heyer’s mother, Susan Bro, led tributes to her daughter by releasing a butterfly in her memory, while attendees wore purple, her favorite color.
